Feature Interactions
The form displayed for the list c onfiguration software-vintage c ommand
has been modified to reflec t the changes imposed by the flash
architecture. The list configuration software command allows INADS to
determine with one query the hard ware configuration, software vintage,
and patch id entifier.
There is no interaction with routine periodic or scheduled maintenanc e,
because patc hes are only applied on restarts b efore the system is in
normal operation.
The flash checksum test acts as a b ackup chec k to ensure that the entire
field update file was ap plied correc tly. It can fail because of a bad
checksum upd ate from a poorly constructed update file or bec ause the
patching op eration has aborted. When the flash Checksum Test fails, a
MAJOR on-board alarm is raised on the p rocessor/memory circui t pack.
When checking the software, the test c ompares the memory resident
software version and patch id entifier. It also checks for the p resence of a
field update file and , if found, compares the old and new patch id entifiers
to make sure the same patch file id loaded on each proc essor. If the
software or update files are inconsiste nt, the list configuration software
command can b e used to display the status of the patch file.
Recovery procedures
In the event of a failure encountered d uring the download and application of the
update file, follow the recommend ed recovery proc edures.
Error on the download transmission
If the error displayed on the ter minal indicates that the downloa d step in the
process failed, there are severa l culprits:
1. The transmission line could have been nois y. Retry after making all the
following checks. Failed a ttempts take up room in the hard p atch file and
may require a warm start to clear the file.
2. The user may have downloaded the tap e/MIPS version of the patch
instead of the flash version.
3. The vintage of the update file may not matc h the vintage of software
currently running in the system. Check the customer’s vintage using list
configuration software and patch vintage p rovided in the
documentation.
