CARD-MEM (Memory Card)

A memory card contains a set of flash EPROM memory devices. The data can b e

stored in a memory card and can remain nonvolatile, even when the power is off.

The memory card is installed into the Processor circuit pack to sav e the

translations, announcements, and c ore dumps. During the sys tem reboot or a

system power down cond ition, the in-core system maintenanc e hardware error

logs are temporarily saved in the memory card before the system g oes down.

When the system is restarted, the error logs file is read b ack from the memory

card.

The Hard Patch feature also uses the memory card as tem porary storage when

LMM applies an upd ate file to the in-core system software. The system software

is stored in the "flash" section of main memory. The memory card used for savi ng

translations doesn’t contain a c opy of the system software.

The recommended size of a memory c ard for each config uration is describ ed in

the following table.

Customers can have either 1 MB, 4 MB, or 10 MB memory c ards for the normal

operations. 10 MB memory card s are also used for maintenance and software

upgrades. The software upg rade memory card c annot be used for saving

translations.
