Alarm
Origination to
OSS Numbers
Indicates one of four opti ons for alarm origination (neither):
both = Major and Minor alarms result in an au tomatic call to both
administered OSS telephone numbers.
first-only = Major and Minor alarms result in an automatic call to
the first administered OSS number.
neither = alarm origination doe s not occur; reports are n ot sent to
either number.
second no-backup = Major and Minor alarms result in an
automatic call to the first ad ministered OSS telephone number. If
calling the first OSS telephone number fails fo ur times, the switch
calls the second ad ministered OSS telephone number until c alling
the first OSS telephone number is successful.
If Alarm Origination is deact ivated, Cleared Alarm Notific ation and
Restart Notification deactivate, even t hough they may still be ac tivate
in the administration.
Cleared Alarm
Notification The switch originates calls to the OSS a nd sends an alarm resol uti on
message once all previously-reported Major and Minor alarms are
resolved. Activate Alarm Orig ination to enable Cleared Alarm
Notification. (no)
Restart
Notification Enables the switch to originate c alls to the OSS and report any
system restarts caused by sw itch problems. Ac tivate Alarm
Origination to enable Restart Notification.
Suspension
Threshold Some problems cause alarms to b e generated and resolved
repeatedly. To detect these problems, the switch susp ends Cleared
Alarm Notification when it has reported the specified number of
Cleared Alarm notifications in a 24 hour p eriod. A suspend ed
Cleared Alarm Notification reac tivates with a successfully-c ompleted
“logoff” co mmand, a system reset, or when the threshold is
changed. This field is irrelevant if Cleared Alarm Notification
or Alarm Origination are disabled. (1–15)
Test Remote
Access Port Indi cate s if r emote acc ess t estin g on the SYSAM circ uit pac k is
active. This field should b e set to yes when an INADS line is
connected to the switc h and a maintenance c ontract is in effect to
maintain alarm origination cap ability.
If no equipment is connec ted to the remote acc ess port, or if a trunk
for remote access and alarm or igination is not provided , running tests
on the remo te ac ces s por t on t he SYSAM r esul ts in test f ailur es. Th is
causes unnecessary maintenanc e alarms and allows potentially
destructive tests to be run. To prevent this, set this field to no.
