To configure and enable BGP, enter ROUTER BGP mode.

Syntax

router bgp as-number

 

To disable BGP, use the no router bgp as-numbercommand.

Parameters

as-number

Enter the AS number. The range is from 1 to 65535 (2 byte),

 

from 1 to 4294967295 (4 byte), or from 0.1 to 65535.65535 (dotted format).

At least one interface must be in Layer 3 mode for the router bgp command to be accepted. If no interfaces are enabled for Layer 3, an error message appears:

%Error: No router id configured

BGP does not allow 23456 (AS-TRANS) as a configured AS number.
