Downloadable Terminal Parameters
The following parameters are download ed to programmab le terminals:
Nonvolatile Memory
Nonvolatile memory stores downloadab le parameters in programm able
terminals. Once the terminal is d ownloaded, it is not be nec essary to download it
again, even if power is removed f rom the terminal. If nonvolatile memory fails with
power still present, the terminal reverts to its default factory setting s except for its
A-law/mu-law companding settings which are stored in RAM. If power is removed
after the nonvolatile memory fails, the terminal reverts to its fac tory default
settings.
NOTE:
The mu-law companding mo de is assigned as a d efault setting at the
factory. For the United States, a programmable termi nal can place c alls
even though it has not been d ownloaded from the system.
Download Actions
There are several different scenarios that cause a termina l to be downloaded .
These can occur as part of b ackground maintenanc e activity or on demand from
the System Access Terminal or from a station.
For the background ac tions described below, the terminal downloads
automatically if a download retr y flag for the terminal is set in software. This flag is
set at the time translation is loaded at b oot time, when translation which affects
the parameters of a terminal is changed as part of system administration actions,
and when a port is inserted in software as a result of board insertion or translatio n
change.
