Start by determining the time of th e interchange. Then, examine the alarm and
error logs as describ ed in the following sect ion. If that does not identify the
problem, proceed to the next section, which d escribes a sequenc e of tests of the
standby SPE.
Determining the Time of a Spontaneous Interchange
There are 2 ways to tell at what time a spontaneous interchang e has taken place:
STBY-SPE Erro r 103
This error is logged with a minor alarm whene ver a spontaneous
interchange takes plac e. The time recorded for the

first occurrence

of the
error is the approximate time of interchang e. The error is logged ag ainst
the c arrie r of t he SPE tha t was acti ve b efore the in terc hang e. Thi s sho uld
now be the standby SPE, assuming no further interc hanges have taken
place.
Display initcauses
The display initcauses c ommand displays a record of all system resets.
In the following example, a sp ontaneous interchange

into

the B carrier
SPE took p lac e at 2 :53 P.M . The st and by SPE (B ) tra nsiti oned into acti ve
mode with a WARM restart, (reset level 1).
