Data Inconsistencies and STO_DATA Tests
The STO-DATA maintenance object is not a hard ware component, but a strateg y
used to test for consistency b etween corresponding files on the different storage
devices. When inconsistenc ies are found, STO-DATA errors and alarms are
generated. The translation, announcement, and software update files are
checked b y comparing timestamp s created when the files were saved from
system memory. The boot image files are chec ked by comparing vintage
numbers. The other files are not checked .
On systems with simplex SPE, a STO-DATA test compares the files on tap e to
those on the disk. On systems with dup licated SPEs, the following comparisons
of corresponding files are made:
1. Disk t o tap e (ac tive SPE)
2. Disk t o tap e (stan dby SPE)
3. Disk ( acti ve SPE) to d isk ( stand by SPE)
4. Tape (ac tive SPE) to tap e (st andb y SPE)
The data consistency tests are run as p art of the short and long d emand test
sequences and automat ically during dai ly scheduled maintenanc e. Test results
point to which files, if any, are out of date.
In addition to the data c onsistency tests, checksum tests are run d uring the long
demand test sequenc e to verify that the checksums of b oth copies of the boot
image on each storage d evice are the same. This capab ility is useful when the
system has booted using a b oot image other than the first cop y on disk. (An
alarm and unique error co de identify this situation). In add ition to test results, you
can use the list configuration software command to retrieve detailed
information about the files on each storage device.
