5. For each endpoint of the fiber-link, fol low this flowchart:
Busyout and test board UUCSS long and record all test failures. When
looking at test results, consult the exp lanations and illustrations of the
tests, which appear at the end of this proced ure.
Is Board Not Assigned disp laye d fo r an EXP-I NTF in an EPN? If y es,
test maintenance long to rel ease a n EXP-IN TF that m ay b e held rese t by
an EPN Maintenance circuit pack.
If No, did EXP-INTF t est 2 42 fai l? If y es, re plac e th e EXP-INTF c irc uit p ack
and the lightwave transcei ver (if present) and go b ack to Step 4.
(EXP-INTF test 242 runs an on-board looparound if no lightwave
trans ceiv er is conn ect ed t o the EXP- INTF.)
If No, did SNI test 757 fail? If yes, replace the SNI ci rcuit pack and go
back to step 4 of this p rocedure.
If No, did SNI test 756 fail? If yes, replace the SNI ci rcuit pack and the
lightwave transceiver (if present) and go back to Step 4.
If No, did EXP-INTF t est 2 40 fai l? If y es, re plac e th e EXP-INTF c irc uit p ack
and go back to Step 4.
If No, did test s 238 ( EXP-INTF) o r 989 (SNI) f ail? If yes, repl ace t he
lightwave transceivers and fiber-optic cable, or metallic cable, and g o
back to Step 4. The faulted comp onent can be further isolated by using
the Manual Loopback Proced ure described at the end of this proced ure.
NOTE:
If a fiber out of frame condition exi sts and lightwave transceivers a re
used, check that b oth lightwave transceivers are of the sa me type,
(9823a or 9823b). If they are not both the same, rep lace one of the
lightwave transceivers so that they matc h. (9823A is used for
distances up to 4 900 feet (1493 m) and 9823B is used for distances
up to 25,000 feet (7620 m)).
If No, is a DS1 CONV administered on the fiber-link? If no, follow normal
escalation proced ures.
If Yes, is there an SNI-BD 513 alarmed error (display errors , category =
pnc)? If yes, replace c abling between the SNI circ uit pack and the DS1C
circuit pack.
If the alarm persists, replace the DS1C and the SNI circuit packs. and go
back to Step 4.
If No, if the con nect ed c ircu it p ack i s an EXP- INTF, d id Test #238 fail?
If Yes, re pla ce c abl ing b etwe en th e EXP-IN TF circ uit p ac k and the D S1C
circuit pack. If Test #238 continues to fail, rep lace the DS1C and the
EXP-INTF circuit pack s and go back to Step 4.
If No, busyout and test board UUCSS long for both DS1C circu it packs
and note all test failures and ab orts.
