network facilities. However, bec ause maintenance capab ilities are limited to the
Wideband Acc ess Endpoint interface, and because faults can o ccur end-to-end,
troubleshooting proced ures based on an end -to-end view of the network is
required.
Wideband acc ess endpoint port main tenance provides a strateg y to maintain a
wideband ac cess endpoint p ort via a port on the Universal DS1 interface c ircuit
pack hardware. The maintenance strateg y covers logg ing wideband access
endpoint port hard ware errors, running tests for port initialization , periodic and
scheduled maintenanc e, demand tests, and alarm escalation and resolution. Two
different port service states are sp ecified in the wid eband acces s endpoint port
maintenance:
out-of-service
: the port is in a deact ivated state and cannot b e used for
calls
in-service
: the port is in an activated state and can be used for calls
If the UDS1 Interface circuit pac k is out of service, all ports on it are taken
out of service and a Warning alarm is raised.
