In a duplicated center stage switch c onfiguration, two EIs are needed in eac h
port network. One is located on the A -side PNC and the second one is loc ated on
the B-side PNC. Note that PNC designation (A or B) does no t relate directly to
carrier location. The EI that is on the active PNC is the one that is ac ting as the
Archangel (TDM Bus Master) for the EPN. This is the EI that should have its
yellow led blinking at a rate of 2 seconds on and 200 ms. off. The standb y PNC EI
should have its yellow led off. The PPN EI circuit packs are loc ated in the first slot
of the switch node carriers , although they may be locate d in port carriers.
An EPN (and thus, the EIs contained in that EPN) can be remoted via a DS1
converter complex. This req uires that the associated fiber li nk which provides
connectivity to the remoted EPN, be adminis tered with a DS1 converter complex.
The DS1 converter complex consists of two TN574 DS1 converter (DS1 CONV)
circuit packs c onnected by from 1 to 4 DS1 facilities. Figure 9-41 shows where
the DS1 converter complex fits into an EI to SNI, or EI to EI fiber link. For more
