1. Display the Alarm Log for the c ircuit pack via the display alarms
command.
2. If there are alarms for the circuit pac k, refer to that section and try to
resolve the alarms.
3. Whether or not all the alarms can be cle ared, test the TDM Bus again via
the test tdm P command.
4. If some TDM Bus tests fail, implement Procedure 1 for the next c ircuit
pack.
5. If all the TDM Bus tests pass, the problem has been fixed.
6. If all circuit pac ks in the list have been investigated , go to Procedure 2.
Procedure 2
Procedure 2 removes and reinserts po rt circuit packs (those in the purple slots)
one or more at a time. Use this procedure fo r each port circuit p ack in the port
network until the problem is resolved o r until all circuit packs i n the port network
have been tried. To execute diagnostic procedures on the Expansion Inter face
and Tone/Clock circuit packs, refer to Procedure 3. Although these circuit p acks
reside in purple slots, procedure 2 does not ap ply. This procedure

does

apply to
the Tone Detector circuit pack.
If the TDM Bus problem is present when the c ircuit pack is inserted , but is
resolved when the circuit pa ck is removed, either the circuit p ack or the
backplane p ins in that slot are causing the prob lem. If the backplane p ins are
intact, replace the c ircuit pack. If some of the tests fail reg ardless of whether the
circuit pack is in serted or removed, and the b ackplane pins are intact, th e circuit
pack is not the cause of the problem. In a multiple failure situation, the c ircuit
pack could be one cause of the TDM Bus problem. Ho wever, other simultaneous
failures might also be responsib le for TDM Bus faults. In Procedure 2, an option
of working either with one circuit p ack at a time or with multiple c ircuit packs
simultaneously is available. In view of this c apability, determine the level of
service interruption that will b e acceptable d uring the proced ure. If causing a
disruption to all users in the por t network is deemed permissib le, large groups of
circuit packs s hould be worked with in orde r to get the job done qu ickly.
However,

if large service disrup tions are to be avoided

, work with one circuit
