located in the B carrier was really the source of the problem and not
the Expansion Interface circuit pack, then the link(s) will go d own
again the next time a Tone-Clock switch to the Tone-Clock in the B
carrier is attempted (p robably when the sc heduled Tone-Clock
switch occurs).
!CAUTION:
If, after all the links are restored, you suspec t the problem
might have been due to a defective Tone-Clock circuit p ack,
switch to this Tone-Clock at an appropriate time . If the
Tone-Clock circuit pack was the ca use of the problem and the
same Expansion Interface circ uit packs are in plac e, the same
link(s) will go down again.
a. On a system in which the network con taining the suspect
Tone-Clock circuit pack has dup licated Tone-Clock circuit p acks
and the network is in-service:
Switch to the Standby Tone-Clock on this network. If the suspec t
Tone-Clock circuit pack is d efective, link(s) should b e restored at
this point. Switching bac k to the defective Tone-Clock should make
the same link(s) go out-of-service. Such a Tone-Clock is defective
and should be repl aced as soon as possib le. If switching
Tone-Clocks does not bring up the EPN, then this Tone-Clock is not
the source of the problem. Make sure to swi tch back to the orig inal
Tone-Clock.
!CAUTION:
If the defective Tone-Clock circuit p ack is left as the Standby
Tone-Clock, then a scheduled Tone-Clock switch will ca use
the same link(s) go out-of-service a gain.
b. On a system in which the EPN containing the s uspect Tone-Clock
circuit pack is out-of-service:
Replace the Active Tone-Clock circuit p ack on this network. In a
network with duplicated Tone-Clock circuit packs, the Ac tive
Tone-Clock will be the Tone-Clock circuit pack whose yellow LED is
flashing: if both are flashing, it is the one that is blinking slower. If
the link(s) comes up after replac ing this Tone-Clock circuit pac k,
then this Tone-Clock circuit pack should be replaced as soon as
possible.
!CAUTION:
If the defective Tone-Clock circuit p ack is left as the Standby
Tone-Clock, then a scheduled Tone-Clock switch will ca use
the same EPN to go out-of-service again.
