Automatic Download Actions
1. System Reboot/Restart
A global download action is started when period ic maintenance tests start
after a system reboot/restart regardless of whether the p arameters have
been downloaded previously.
2. Periodic Tests
If the download flag is still set wh en periodic tests are run on a ter minal, a
download action will oc cur. This operation is required in case a terminal
could not be d ownloaded previously b ecause it was off-hook at the time
the system first booted or b ecause the terminal was off-hook at the time
translation associated with d ownloadable parameters was changed.
Note that it may take more than an hour for periodic tests to reach the
terminal that needs to be d ownloaded.
3. Terminal Administration
A downloadable terminal is automatically download ed when translation
changes associated with downloadable parameters are made as part o f
system administration. As shown in the p revious table, these chang es can
be for a specified terminal or may be system-wide. If the c hange is for
system-level parameter, a bac kground globa l update request is mad e to
download all programmable terminals.
This global update may take more than an hour for a system with several
thousand programmab le terminals.
4. Port Insertion
Whenever maintenance software initiates a request to p lace a port into
service, a terminal download action is started on that ter minal if that
terminal is programmab le. This port insertion action oc curs under the
following circumstances:
a. A digital line circ uit pack that is p hysically inserted into the sy stem
has ports currently administered for programmable terminals.
If more than 20 port insertion requests are rec eived within a few
seconds, a glob al download request is star ted up as a backg round
task. This action updates all p rogrammable terminals instead of just
those being inserted . This is done to avoid system overload fo r
situations where there is massive board insert ion. This could occu r
when connectivity to an EPN is reestablished after th at EPN was
down.
b. A station port is add ed to the system by a "add station" or " change
station" command.
c. A TTI port is activated.
