Replacing Duplication Channel Components
The SPE Duplication Channel consists of a Duplication Inter face circuit pa ck
(DUPIN T) in th e ac tive SPE, a DUPIN T in th e stan db y SPE, and an
interconnecting c able. The following sections c ontain step-by-step p rocedures
for replacing eac h of these components. DUPINT replacement must b e done on
the standby SPE to prevent loss of service.
If replacement of standb y DUPINT circuit pack does no t repair the Duplication
Channel, replace the DUPINT circuit pac k on the active SPE. If replacement of
both of these circuit p acks does not repair the Dup lication Channel, replac e the
interconnecting c able.
Replacing the STANDBY Duplication Interface (DUPINT) Circuit Pack
This procedure is used after a test duplication-interfac e long displays a failure
for at least one of the tests that indict t he standby DUPINT. The procedure to
interchange the active DUPINT to the standb y mode also uses this proc edure.
1. Use the busyout spe-standby command to lower the standby State of
Health to partially functional to prevent an unwanted interchang e during
replacement and testing of the standby DUPINT.
2. Man ually loc k the a ctiv e SPE. by movi ng th e SPE sele ct s witc hes lo cat ed
on the front of the DUPINT circuit packs to p ositions where they are both
selecting the current ac tive SPE.
3. Whenever locking the SPE,
always
verify that the active PPN Tone/Clock is
in the acti ve SPE ca rrie r
before
doing any repair ac tivity on the standby
SPE carrier such as powering down. Enter status port-network 1 to
check which c lock is active. Remove power from the stand by SPE carrier
by pulling the power cords located on both sides of the carrier.

Power

must be removed from the standb y carrier in order for the replac ement

DUPINT to initialize properly.

4. Set t he SPE-se lec t swit ch on the ne w DUPI NT cir cuit pac k to t he sam e
position as the circuit p ack you are going to rep lace. Then remove and
replace the defec tive circuit pack .
!CAUTION:

The new standby DUPINT must have its SPE Select switch set to lock

the currently active carrier. The switch should be in the same

position as the removed circ uit pack.

5. Ap ply p owe r to th e stan db y SPE car rier.
