For each reset level, the system performs a se ries of diagnostic test s on
comp onen ts of t he SPE to conf irm t hat th e syst em c an be brou ght i nto s ervic e.
The management terminal displays the result of each test as it occurs. If a reboot
fails , and the sy stem cann ot br ing itsel f up, SPE-do wn mod e is i nvoke d. A
description of this mod e, with troubleshooting proc edures available to it, app ears
in the following section.
Table 4-1 shows the diagnostic tests run during initializations. Level 1, 2 an d 3
resets 4 perform the first 11 tests (through the Timer Test). Reboots complete all
tests in the table except the last one. Only extended reboots exec ute the Memory
Board Couple Test.
If a test fails, make the indicated repair. If more than one repair is indic ated,
perform them in the order shown until the p roblem is resolved. Follow proced ures
described in ‘‘Replacing SPE Circuit Packs’’ in Chapter 5, ‘‘Alarms, Errors, and
Troubleshooting’’.
Other effects are the same as those in reset leve l 3, except that
more extensive diagnostic s are performed.

If a core dump is enab led for this reset level via the set vector
command, the reboot is d elayed until the core d ump has
completed.

Effects Effects are the same as for a level 4 reboot exc ept that more
extensive diagnostics ar e performed.
This reset is used to diagnose SPE component failures not
detected by l evel 4 reboot tests.
