Description
This command enables Suspend Alarm Origination for a board (which also
includes all por ts and endpoints on the b oard) or for a port (whic h includes all
endpoints on the port ), and either for both on- and off-b oard alarms or for
off-board alarms only. Many control circ uit packs do not have a b oard location,
so this command cannot support all circ uit packs.
On the command line, spec ify a time-out duration between one a nd 72 hours.
The “off-board-only” keyword is optional; if the keyword is not spe cified, the entry
suspends Alarm Orig ination for both on-and off-b oard alarms. Each enable
command bec omes a new entry or replaces an existing entry in the Suspend
Alarm Origination table. A new entry that matches both the physic al location and
off-only/on- and off-board sp ecifications of an active entr y replaces the active
entry in the Suspend Alarm Origination tab le.
This command may be useful for imp roving control over situations suc h as the
following:
Improved control over c ustomer requests. For example, to suspend
off-board DS1 alarms temporarily for c ustomers that periodically
disconnect DS1 trunks for testing or other business related purp oses.
Improved control over external (non -Lucent) problems. For example, to
suspend off-board DS1 alarms before a customer resolves facility
problems (such as working with the vendor of a T1 trunk that has
developed an off-b oard condition).
Improved control over internal (Luc ent) problems that c annot be resolved
right away. For example, to suspend Alarm Orig ination for a bad ci rcuit
pack detec ted late Friday night and p ersonnel cannot be disp atched until
Monday.
NOTE:
Also see other Suspend Alarm Originati on related commands, inc luding
“disable suspend-alm-orig” and “list suspend-alm-orig”.
Defaults
This command enables Suspend Alarm Origination for both on- and off-board
alarms if the “off-board-only” keyword is not specifi ed.
