SYS-LINK (System Links)
System Links are packet links that originate at the Packet Interface board and
traverse various hardware component s to specific end points. The hardware
components involved on the forward and reverse routes can b e different,
depending u pon the configuration and switch administration. Various types of
links are defined by their end points:

Recording System Link Events

The system links maintenance object records all errors encountered on the links.
Most of these events are not extraordinary unless they oc cur with an alarming
frequency. The events are logged as they oc cur, leaving a “tr ail” to help analyze
abnormal behavior exhib ited by the endp oints attached to the links or the links
themselves.
When a link goes down, an alarm is raised immed iately. For EAL, INL, and PACL
link types a MINOR alarm is raised; for all other link ty pes a WARNING alarm is
raised. Other alarming c onditions that do not caus e the link to go down get a
WARNING alarm, regardless of the link type.

Identifying a System Link

In order to trace problems associated with a system link, it is nec essary to find its
location. The following methods c an be used to find the l ocation of the system
link:
MO Name (in
Alarm Log) Alarm
Level Initial Command to Run Full Name of MO
SYS-LINK MINOR tes t sys- link U UCSSpp SYSTEM LINKS
SYS-LINK WARNING test s ys-li nk UUC SSpp SYSTEM LINKS
EAL Expansion Archangel Link terminating at an Expansion Interface board.
This link carries CCMS messages.
INL Indirect Neighbor Link terminating at a Switch Node Interface board
PACL PNC ATM Control Link term inatin g at a P NC ATM EI board. This link carries
ATM signaling commands from CaPro to the remote TN2238 (ATM-EI)
boards.
PGC Packet Gateway Call-Control Link terminating at a Packet Gateway board
PRI ISDN PRI D-Channel Link terminating at a Univ ersal DS1 board
SAP System (Access) Port Link terminating at a Packet Data port
X.25 BX.25 Link terminating at a Packet Gateway port
