Each tie trunk circuit pac k occupies a p ort circuit pac k slot and contains 4 port
circuits. Each port c ircuit supports 1 analog tie trunk used to connec t the switch
to another PBX across one-way or two-way dedicated circuits (see prec eding
list).
A tie trunk port can also b e administered as an acc ess endpoint which is a
non-signaling channel with a voic e-grade data b andwidth. Tie trunk maintenance
employs up to 6 tests, dep ending on the hardware involved , to monitor the
operating cond ition of the trunk and its connec tions. These are described in the
following sections on eac h test. The port must be idle for these tests to run. If an
incoming call seizes the p ort while a test is in progress, the test ab orts and the
call proceeds (except for TN497).
Additional in-line testing is performed whenever a c all is in progress, logg ing
errors that occur during operation. You can reproduce these typ es of errors by
making a call over the trunk and then checking the Hard ware Error Log.
By making translation and c ross-connect chang es, circuit pac ks (except for
TN497) can be configured for back-to-bac k testing, also known as connec tivity
testing. Port operation is tested b y connecting two tie trun k ports together in
either E&M or simplex modes. See the section
Analog Tie Trunk Back-to-Back Tes t i n g
.
