Whenever new announcements are recorded on the circuit pac k, save
them on disk as soon as possib le to ensure that they will not be lost due to
a disruption. Periodic saves to tape provide further b ackup if the d isk files
are lost or corrupted. This is also ac complished when the entire disk is
backed up.
NOTE:
Unlike translations, announcements are never saved automatically
by the system. so you must do it manuall y.
The save announcements command replaces the announcemen t files on
disk or tape with those in Announc ement circuit pac k speech memory.
Take care not to inadvertently destroy a valid file on tap e or disk with this
command.
The restore announcements c ommand replaces announc ement circuit
pack speec h memory with announcement files on the d isk or tape. Take
care not to inadvertently dest roy valid announcements on the c ircuit pack
by restoring from a devic e that does not contain a c urrent announcement
file.
Whenever the announcement circuit p ack is replaced , you must re-record
announcements or restore them from disk or tap e. Otherwise, the circuit
pack will be unavailab le to call processing service.
If the circuit pac k’s speech memory is c orrupted, announcements should
not
be saved (for example, when the Announcement Checksum Test
(#209) fails or announcements sound c orrupted when pl ayed back). This
can ruin a good announc ement file on disk or tape, and potentially cause
errors and alarms on any circuit pack to which the saved file is
downloaded. If, however, the c ustomer does not have a valid
announcement file on tape or di sk, You may wish to save announcements
in an effort to try to retain those which are not corrup ted.
