DS1 and UDS1 circuit packs c an be administered with slip detection enabled via
the Slip Detection? field set to a y (see the add ds1, change ds1, and display
ds1 commands). All DS1 and UDS1 circ uit packs administered as slip enabled
will be counted in the following alg orithm:
When over half of the DS1 and UDS1 circuit packs ad ministered as slip enabled
are experiencing slip s, and the primary or sec ondary synchronization reference
is the current synchronization reference, sync hronization will try the other
administered synchronization referenc e.
In situations where one or many circuit pa cks in the system are experiencing
slips, the problem could be with the synchronization reference, with individual
circuit packs, o r with phase modulation of the transmitted digital bit streams d ue
to environmental variations of the transmission facilities (suc h as temperature
variations that affect the electrical le ngth of a transmission line). The circuit pac ks
that can experience sl ips and the associated error log entry for slips are as
follows.
When slips occur on the circ uit packs mentioned above, first consult the
individual circ uit pack section in th e manual for each circuit p ack that has slips. If
slips occur in low numb ers, they may be due to environmental c onditions as
described a bove. If no service deg radation is occurrin g, no action is necessary.
Whenever the system switches synchronization sourc es, slips can be exp ected
from D S1-BD, UDS1-B D, an d EXP-IN TF circ uit p ack s. If s ervi ce d egra dati on
occurs, after following the rep air steps in the individua l section, use the following
trouble shooting techniq ues.
