Clear Error Counters (#270)
This test is not an actual test in the strict sense of the word . Many circuit pac ks
have counters in the Angel firmware. These c ounters are used so that Control
Channel Message Set (CCMS) messages are not continuously sen t uplink. Using
this method, the message will b e sent once, when the counter reaches s ome
preset threshold, and then not sent ag ain until the counter is cleared .
The ports on the Maintenance/Test circuit pac k continually run self-tests,
whenever the port is idle. The Angel u ses a counter so that the Background
Maintenance Failure message is only sent up link once (this keeps a failed
port /cir cuit pack from f lood ing t he SPE wit h a str ing of messa ges) . This t est is
used to clear the counter, so tha t if the port continues to fail during or after
SPE-demanded testing, the Angel will send a message to indicate that fact.
This test is only used to send a message to th e Angel on the Maintenance/Test
Circuit Pack. Therefore, this test should never abort or fa il.
Digital Port Sanity Test (#565)
This test verifies that the port circuitry i nvolved in the digital trunk testing on the
Maintenance/Test Digital Port is functioning prop erly. This circuitry is common to
both Maintenance/Test Digital Ports on the Maintenance/Test circuit pac k.
Therefore, this test is only run for port 2. The test will abort when r un on port 3, as
described in Table 9-444.
This test operates by connect ing the two Maintenance/Test Digital Ports on the
TDM Bus so that they talk and listen to each other. Then four self-tests are
attempted: (a) sending data from port 2 to por t 3 in asynchronous mode; (b)
sending data from p ort 3 to port 2 in asynchronous mod e; (c) sending data from
port 2 to port 3 in sync hronous mode; and (d) send ing data from port 3 to p ort 2
in synchronous mode. The test passes if all four of these self-tests are
successful. The test will stop as so on as any one of these self-tests fails.

Error
Code Test Result Description/ Recommendation
Any ABORT This test should never abort.
Any FAIL This test should never fail.
1. Retry the command at 1-minute intervals a maximum of 5 times.
2. If the test continues to fail, escalate the problem.
PASS The message to clear the Maintenance/Test circuit pack’s counter for
Background Maintenance Failures has been sent.
