EI In-Service Mechanism
In order for calls to be routed through a given EPN, the EI that is part of the
connectivity to that EPN must be put into servic e. In order for an EI to be put into
service, the following c riteria must be met:
1. The EI must be recognized by so ftware (inserted). Use the list config
carrier command to deter mine if the board is recog nized by software.
2. The EI must have a fiber link administered to it. Use the list fiber-link
command to determin e if this EI circuit pack has a fib er administered to it.
3. The EI must have established a LAPD link to its neighbor (the c ircuit pack
on the “other end” of the fib er link). This neighbor can b e another EI or an
SNI (Switch Node Interface).
!CAUTION:
If requirements 1 and 2, above, have b een met, and the yellow LED s
are flashing in a manner that app ears to confirm that the Expansion
Interface circuit pack has established a LAPD link to its neighbor, the
circuit pack still may not be “in-servic e”. The requirement is that it
must have the CORRECT neighbor on the other end of the fiber. Care
must be taken when connecting the fibers to the back of the carriers
so that fibers are connected to the correct circ uit packs. In a Center
Stage Switch configuration, run the “ configuration audi t” test against
the Switch Node Interface c ircuit pack that is the neig hbor of the
Expansion Interface circu it pack in question (see SNI-BD
Maintenance Documentation for more d etails).
Once an EI has been put into servic e, if any of the above listed “ in-service”
criteria become untrue, the EI is taken out of service, and service to th at port
network is not available.
