Alarms, Errors, and Troubleshooting
5-100Packet Bus Fault Isolation and Repair
5
j. The answer is yes if any of the following app ly:
The TN771D in standalone mode indicates any faulty leads.
Test #572 in the PKT-BUS test sequence fails.
The status port-network P d isplay indicates that faulty l eads are
present and the TN771D in the port network is known to be
functioning correc tly.
k. If the non-functional endpoin ts are isolated to a single circ uit pack, that
circuit pack is probably the cause of th e problem.
l. Investigate errors and alarms in the following order:
1. Circuit pack-level
2. Ports
3. Endpoints
m. Follow the ‘‘Troubleshooting Procedures’’ outlined later in this discussion.
If the packet bus p roblem cannot be resolved with these procedures,
follow normal escalation proc edures.
Correcting Packet Bus FaultsThe Status Port-Network Command
Status port-network P displays includ e the service state, alarm status, and , if
the Maintenance/Test packet bus port i s present, the number of faulty and op en
leads for the packet b us in the specified port-network. This information can b e
used to determine the urg ency of the repair. In general, a serv ice state of “out”
indicates extreme urgenc y, while a service state of “reconfig” ind icates moderate
urgency.
NOTE:
Ultimately, the urgency of a repair is deter mined by the customer’s
requirements. A customer who uses ISDN-BRI for station sets, or who relies
heavily on packet bus s upported system ad junct features like DCS, Audix,
or CDR, probably consid ers a packet bus failure c ritical. On the other hand,
a customer with little ISDN-BRI service and no ad junct features may
consider even an uncorrec table packet b us fault unimportant, and may
prefer to delay repairs d ue to their disruptive nature.
If background mai ntenance is running on the pac ket bus when the status
port-network command is issued, the d ata reported for the pac ket bus may be
inconsistent due to upd ating by the tests. If the d ata seems inconsistent, enter
the command again.
