S-SYN-PT (Speech Synthesis Port)
The TN725B Speech Synthesis circuit pack p rovides four independ ent Speech
Synthesis Ports which may be connecte d to any of the voice time slots on the
Time Division Multiplex (TDM) Bus. Each Speech Synthesis Port consis ts of a
speech synthesizer devic e (SSD) and is managed by a c ustom-coded
prog ramma ble s peec h syn thesi zer (PSS) cont roller . The PSS c ontro ller is , in tu rn,
controlled by the on-b oard microprocessor via a command interface specifically
desi gned for t his ap plic atio n. The PSS c ontr oller ’s main func tion i s the o rder ly
transfer of encoded sp eech from the speech voc abulary read-only memory
(ROM) to the SSDs. The SSDs decode it and produce 64 kb/s 5-255 PCM (Pulse
Code Modulation) speec h. The encoded spe ech is stored in up to 512K b ytes of
on-board ROM. In addition, eac h Speech Synthesis Port has an associated
dual-tone multifrequency rec eiver (DTMR) to receive touch-tone digits from a
station set connected to the p ort via a voice time slot. The station set may b e
connected to the Speec h Synthesis Port through either a line or trunk circuit.
When there is an incoming call to a p ort, the ‘‘listen’’ network time slot is
connected to the DTMF receiver input and the ‘‘talk’’ network time slot is
connected to the SSD output. This enab les the Speech Synthesis Port to support
speech synthesis features or touc h-tone input with voice response features.
Some of the features that use the Speech Synthesis Port’s capab ilities include
Leave Word Calling, Automatic Circuit As surance, Automatic Wakeup
(hotel-motel), and Do Not Disturb (hotel-motel ).
The Speech Synthesis circuit pac k should not be confused with the
Announcement circuit p ack. Different voice features are supp orted by each
circuit pack.
