Chapter 8, ‘‘Maintenance Commands ’’, contains a descrip tion of each
maintenance command avail able through the management ter minal. The
commands are ordered alp habetically. A general des cription of command
syntax and conventions ap pears at the beginning of the chapter.
Chapter 9, ‘‘Maintenance Obj ect Repair Procedures’’, contain s specific
troubleshooting and repair instructions for every compo nent in the system.
The maintenance objects are listed alphabeticall y by name as they
appear in the Alarm and Error Logs. Under each maintenanc e object
appears a desc ription of the object’s function, tables for interpretin g alarm
and error logs, and instruc tions on how to use tests, commands , and
replacements to resolve associated problems. Most of these p rocedures
are complete and self-c ontained, while others rely upon p rocedures in
Chapter 5, ‘‘Alarms, Errors, and Troubleshooting’’.

Before working on a system, the technic ian must be thoroughly familiar with the
precautions and p ractices desc ribed at the beg inning of Chapter 5, ‘‘Alarms,
Errors, and Troubleshooting’’.

Class 1 Laser Device

The DEFINITY ECS contains a Class 1 LASER device if single-mode fib er optic
cable is connec ted to a remote Expansion Port Network (EPN). The LASER
device operates within the following parameters:
Power Output: -5 dBm
Wavelength: 1310 nm
Mode Field Diameter: 8.8 microns
