Forced Password Aging and Administrable Logins
G3V3 and later releases provide enhanc ed login/password security by add ing a
security feature that allows users to define their own logins/passwords and to
specify a set of com mands for each login. The system allo ws up to 11 customer
logins. Each login name c an be customized and must be made up of from 3 to 6
alphabetic/numeric characters, or a comb ination of both. A password must be
from 4 to 11 characters in leng th and contain at least 1 alp habetic and 1 numeric
symbol. Password aging is an optional feature that the super-user ad ministering
the logins can activate.
NOTE:
If several “users” are logg ing in and out at the same time, a user may see
the message “Transient command conflic t detected; p lease try later”. After
the “users” have comp leted logging in or out, the System Access Terminal
is available for use, try executing the command ag ain.
The password for each login c an be aged sta rting with the date the p assword
was created, or chang ed, and continuing for a specified num ber of days (1 to
99). The user is notified at the login promp t, 7 days before the pas sword
expiration date, that his/her p assword is about to expire. When the pas sword
expires the user is required to enter a new p assword into the system before
logging in. If a log in is added or removed , the “Security Measurement” rep orts
are not updated until the next hour ly poll, or a clear measurements
security-violations command is entered . Once a non-super-user has c hanged
his/her password, the user must wait 24 hours to c hange the password again.
V4 security is enhanced by providing a log off notification screen to a system
administrator when he/she logs off while either the fa cility test call or remote
access features are still administered . The administrator can be req uired to
acknowledge the notification before completing the logoff process. Logoff
notification is administered on t he Login Administration sc reen.
The system is delivered to the customer with on e customer “super-user”
login/password d efined. The customer is required to a dminister additional
login/passwords as needed. The super-user login has full customer permissions
and can customize any log in that he/she creates.
