EPN-SNTY (EPN Sanity Audit)
The EPN Sanity Audit feature enhanc es the system’s ability to recover from failure
conditions that disab le an entire EPN. In such situations, not only is the affected
EPN unable to provide service to the system, b ut the system itself has not
detected the c ondition. The EPN Sanity Audit feature recognizes an EPN as
unable to provide servic e when the software cannot receive control m essages
from EPN circuit packs. When such a failure is detec ted by the EPN Sanity Audit,
a sequence of recovery ac tions is triggered to restore the EPN to service.
For a Sta ndar d Relia bili ty sys tem (s impl ex SPE), t he rec overy sequ ence is:
1. TDM Bus Switch
2. EPN WARM Res et
3. EPN CO LD Rese t
For a High or Critical Reliability system (d uplicated SPE), the recovery sequenc e
is:
1. TDM Bus Switch
2. Tone/Clock Switch within the EPN
3. PNC Interchange
4. EPN WARM Res et
5. EPN CO LD Rese t
The EPN Sanity Audit feature activates only when all existing maintenance
operations have failed to detec t the EPN problem. The EPN Sanity Audit serves
as a safety net for the EPN.
NOTE:
It is not clear why certain type s of EPN problems activate this feature. Thus,
error log entries related to these problem s do not specify which hard ware to
replace. The error log entries only ind icate that some drastic rec overy
action occurred due to an unknown problem. However , clues as to the root
cause of the EPN outage may be present in the Error Logs and the Alarm
Logs of the following MOs: Switch Control (SW-CTL), TDM Bus (TDM-BUS),
Expan sion I nterf ace ( EXP-INTF), TDM Bus Cloc k (TDM- CLK), EXP-PN, an d
PNC-DUP. You should refer to these maintenance sections during
troubleshooting operations.
