Enterprise Communications Server Release 5.4 Administration and Feature

Description
, for information on how to administer trunks. The App lication
Notes section of that book shows the c orrect settings for administrab le
timers and other parameters on a c ountry-by-country ba sis.
Direct Inward Dial trunks connec t the switch to the CO, and allow outsid e parties
to call directly to an extension in the system. DID trunk circuit pac ks support
eight incoming-only p orts. Each port provid es an interface between the 2-wire
analog CO line and the 4-wire TDM bus on the switc h.

DID Trunk Operation

The DID port receives three to five dig its from the CO that are used to directly
connect an outside c aller to the called station without assis tance from an
attendant. For each call, the CO switc h signals the system by openi ng and
closing individ ual DID loops (one of the eight p orts), causing the starting or
stopping of loop current.

DID Trunk Testing

The system uses four tests of on-board circ uitry to diagnose the health of the
trunk. These are described in the following sections. Add itionally, in-line testing
which can generate errors, is performed while a c all is in progress. See the Error
Log table for a desc ription of these errors. These errors may be reprod uced by
placing a c all on the trunk and checking the Hardware Error Log.

1. UU is the universal cabinet number (1 for PPN, 2 -44 for EPNs). C is the carrier designation
(A, B, C, D, or E). SS is the number of the slot i n whi ch the circuit pack resides (01 to 21). pp
is the two digit port number (01, 02, ...).
