Reseating and Replacing Circuit Packs
Most repair procedures inv olve replacing faulted circuit pac ks. In some cases,
problems are resolved by reseating the existing circ uit pack. Reseat a circui t
pack
only
when explicitly instructed to do so by the d ocumented proc edures.
Reseating is discouraged since it can p ut a faulty component b ack into service
without addressing the c ause, resulting in add itional and unnecessary
dispatches. After reseating a circuit pac k, make sure the problem is really fixed
by thorough testing and observing the com ponent in operation.
When a port board is removed from the backplane, no alarm i s logged for ab out
11 minutes to allow for maintenance activity to proceed. After that, a minor
on-board alarm is logg ed. If the port b oard is not administered, no alar m is
logged.
!WARNING:
This procedure can b e destructive, resulting in a total or partial servic e
outage.
!WARNING:
Proceed only after consulting a nd understanding the applicab le service
documentation for the com ponent.
!WARNING:
Observe all Safety Precautions describ ed above.
!WARNING:
If the yellow LED on the circuit pack to b e removed is lit, the circ uit pack is
active and services using it will be interrup ted.
!WARNING:
Follow special proced ures for the circuit pac ks listed below.
