Automatic Backups
During normal operations, files in sys tem memory, on disk, and on tape c an
become inconsistent (for ex ample, when translations are chang ed, when
announcements are saved). During d aily scheduled maintenance, several
actions are take to keep da ta files consistent:
1. At the start of scheduled maintenance, translations and error log s are
saved. This step must be enab led by the ‘‘Save Translation’’ field on the
change system-parameters maintenance form.
2. Disk files are backed up to tape.
3. STO-DATA tests are run along with other daily maintenanc e tests.
At the end of this sequenc e, disk and tape files shoul d all be identic al, and
translations and error logs files should be current with system memory.
Announcement files are not saved automatic ally, and should be manually sa ved
after recording or altering announcements. The automatic bac kup will however
transfer these from disk to tape.
File Inconsistencies: Causes
A number of things can c ause files to become inc onsistent between devic es.
Test stored data and list configuration software can be used to identify which
files are affected. Describ ed below are some of the ca uses of inconsistencies.
