Tape Firmware Error Counters Readand Clear Test (#812)
The Host Adapter firmware is constantly run ning backg round tests on each of its
devices. When an error is detecte d by one of these bac kground tests, the
appropriate counte r in the host adapter dual p ort RAM is incremented. The Tape
Firmware Error Counters Read and Clear Test requests that the firmware return
these errors to the software and clear the area in dual p ort RAM. If any counter is
non-zero, the software then increments the approp riate software counter. The 16
errors reported by the firmware are:
Unexpected interrup t from the SCSI Bus Interface Controller Chip (SBICC)
SBICC timed out during SCSI command
Error interrupt from the Direct Memory Acc ess Controller (DMAC)
DMAC timeout without issuing interrupt
Tape self-test failed
1FAIL The audit of the tape directory failed.
1. Verify that a tape cartridge is installed.
2. Perform a backup disk. This may take up to an hour to complete.
3. If the test continues to fail, replace the Tape Cartridge. Wait for the retension
pass to complete and rerun the test. If the test su cceeds, issue th e backup
disk command.
4. If the test continues to fail, replace the Tape circuit pack.
5. If the test continues to fail, determine if other Tape, Disk, or Host Adapter
tests fail, and if they do, follow the repair procedures for those failures.
PASS The tape directory audit succeeded. Chec k other results to see if it is operating
correctly.
1. See the MSS Error Actions table at the end of the section on TAPE.
