n. Make sure the data module is co nnected and op erating properly. Check
for faulty wiring. If necessary, reduce the leng th of the cable b etween the
data module and the switc h to 5000 ft for 24-gauge wire or 4000 ft for
24-gauge wire. Refer to
DEFINITY Communications System Generic 1 and 3 - Installation and Test
, 555-230-104.
If the problem still exists, replac e the circuit pac k. Once the problem has
been resolved, the alarm will b e retired in 60 minutes (90 min for error
1537). (These error counters use the leaky buc ket mechanism.)
The DA module is not phantom-powered from the port. Thus when it is in
linked mode, its range is li mited by the Italtel dig ital phone’s limit: 0.7 Km
(2300) ft on 26-gauge wire or 1.8 Km (5900) ft on 22-gauge (0.6 mm) wire.
If in stand-alone mode, it is limited by the maximum length of loop allowed
from the Digital Line Interface (DLI) c omponent: up to 3.5 Km (2 miles) on
22-gauge (0.6 mm) wire.
System Technician-Demanded T ests: Descripti ons
and Error Codes
Always investigate tests in the order p resented in the table b elow. By clearing
error codes associated with the
Data Module Internal Looparound Test,
for
example, you may also clear errors g enerated from other tests in the testing
sequence.
NPE Crosstalk Test (#9)
The NPE Crosstalk Test verifies that this port’s NPE channel talks on the selected
time slot and never crosses over to time slots rese rved for other connections. If
the NPE is not working correctly, one-way and noisy connec tions may be
observed. If a second ary data module is assig ned, it is tested after the p rimary
data module. If either test fails, b oth data modules are taken out of servic e. This
test usually run only during the long test sequence and takes about 20 to 30
seconds to comp lete.
