TBRI-BD (TN2185 ISDN Trunk-Side BRI)
The TN2185 circuit pack conta ins eight, 4-wire ports that interf ace to the network
at the ISDN S/T reference point over two 64 Kb/s channels (B1 and B2) and over
a 16Kb/s signaling (D) channel. The B1 and B2 channels c an be simultaneously
circuit switched or individually pac ket switched. Only one c hannel per trunk can
be p acke t swit che d du e to Pac ket Pr oces sing Eleme nt (PPE) l imita tions . The D
channel is either circuit switc hed or packe t switched. Packet switchi ng uses the
PPE to combine all D channels into a single ph ysical channel, which is th en
routed via the concentration hig hway to the Network Control Element (NCE) and
then to the TDM bus. The circuit-switched connections have a Mu-law or A-l aw
option for voice and op erate as 64Kb/s clear d ata channels. The
packet-switched channels suppor t the LAPD protocol and confor m with the
CCITT Q.920 Recommendations for D-channel signaling.
LEDs
The three LEDs on the circuit pack’s fac eplate indicate b oard status. When
illuminated, the red LED indic ates a board failure or a major or minor on-b oard
alarm, the green LED indicates that testing is in progress, and th e amber LED
indicates that the board is in use.
