5. Use the status spe command to determine if Standby Refreshed?
yes for Mode: standby is displayed.

If the standby is refreshed,

a hard switch will not affect c ustomer
service. Continue with step 6.

If the standby is not refreshed,

you will need to execute a hard
switch that
will
affect customer service (b y at least dropping c urrent
calls). Notify the customer and establish a time to perform this
disruptive maintenance.
6. Har d swi tch in to the stand by SPE b y movi ng b oth SPE Sel ect s witch es to
the position that selects the stand by SPE as active.
If the interchange was succ essful, replace the standb y DUPINT
using the replacement p rocedure for the standby DUPINT.
Replacing the Duplication Interface Interconnecting Cable
This procedure is used after rep lacing both DUPINT circuit p acks has failed to
resolve the duplication c hannel failure.
1. Use the busyout spe-standby command to lower the standby State of
Health to partially functional to p revent an unwanted interchange d uring
the Duplication Interconnec ting cable rep lacement and testing.
2. Man ually lock the ac tive SPE. This is done by mov ing t he SPE sel ect
switches located on the front of the DUPINTs to positions where they are
both selec ting the c urrent acti ve SPE.
3. Whenever locking the SPE,
always
verify that the active PPN Tone/Clock is
in the acti ve SPE car rier
before
doing any repair ac tivity on the standby
SPE carrier such as powering down. Enter status port-network 1 to
check which c lock is active. Remove power from the standb y SPE carrier
by pulling the power cords located on both sides of the carrier. Power
must be removed from the standby carrier. If power is not removed
from the standby SPE carrier before the interconnecting cable is
disconnected, an interchange to the standby SPE will occur, causing
disruption of customer service.
4. Examine the cable and assoc iated connectors for ob vious problems.
Check for broken or bent pins, and repair or replace before installing the
new cable.
!CAUTION:

This cable interconnects the p owered down standb y and the active

carriers. Use extreme caution. Shorting p ins can cause the ac tive

SPE to fail. Consider replacing this cab le during period s of light

traffic or, ideally, when both carriers are p owered down (system out

of service).
